...A MIX OF FREEZING RAIN, SLEET, AND SNOW WILL LEAD TO SLIPPERY TRAVEL CONDITONS TODAY ACROSS SOUTHERN AND EASTERN MINNESOTA AND INTO THIS EVENING FOR WESTERN WISCONSIN...
.Light precipitation as been moving across Minnesota overnight. Initially, it has been a mix of sleet and snow, but has been transitioning to a very light freezing drizzle over southwest Minnesota. Through the rest of the morning, this precipitation is expected to transition to a mix of freezing rain or drizzle and snow, with that precipitation mix continuing through the day today in Minnesota and lingering through about midnight in western Wisconsin. The Winter Weather Advisory is now in place for areas along and east of a line from Redwood Falls to Chisago City.
The main concern is travel impacts from a glazing of ice and slick roads. Southeast winds will be light, around 10 to 15 mph, and any icing amounts should be less than a tenth of an inch. For that reason, we do not anticipate impacts to power lines or trees.
* WHAT...Mixed precipitation. Snow accumulations up to one inch, sleet accumulations up to one tenth of an inch, and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch.
* WHERE...Wright, Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, Washington, Freeborn, Le Sueur, Rice, Steele, Waseca, and Goodhue Counties.
* WHEN...Until 6 PM CST this evening.
* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions.
